"I began my apprenticeship with Andre in 2017 because I wanted to learn barbering. At the time, I truly thought that was my path. Braiding had been a hobby of mine since I was 9 years old. The desire to learn how to cut hair came from wanting to offer my clients convenience — a true “one stop shop.” I wanted them to be able to get braids and a haircut all in one place, by someone they trusted. Although I later realized barbering wasn’t my calling, that season changed my life.
Andre was the first person to give me space to work outside of my home — outside of what was comfortable. That opportunity stretched me, built my confidence, and exposed me to a higher level of professionalism and structure. What started in 2017 as an apprenticeship became the foundation for everything that followed:
In 2018, I left my full-time job to pursue braiding full-time.
By 2020, I became a partial owner of a barbershop.
And in 2025, I became the solo owner of Thrive Studio Salon.
Barbering may not have been for me — but it gave me tremendous respect for the craft and for those who dedicate themselves to it. That respect shaped how I built my business.
Today, Thrive Studio features two sides — one for stylists and one for barbers. Together, we create an environment where clients have access to both, and where collaboration makes us stronger.
That’s what mentorship does. It doesn’t just teach skill — it unlocks vision."
